Whatever

got to get back to reading.... got Blood and Gold for my birthday, and still haven't finished it. not that it isn't good, but i keep forgetting to read it! i got Merrick last year, and I still haven't read it! I've started it twice! Didn't finish American Gods. And those are two of my favorite authors.... sad. Need to watch less tv. turns the brain to mush. got a $50 gift certificate to Lee Booksellers for xmas, finally spent it last weekend--got Alice Borchardt's The Dragon Queen (which, as far as I can tell, does for Guinevere what Mists of Avalon did for Morgan LeFay)...oddly enough, it turns out that Alice Borchardt is Anne Rice's sister. I have read
Katherine Ramsland's bio of Anne Rice (Prism of the Night), and I had seen her werewolf books before, but I never made the connection til i looked at the book jacket for Dragon Queen. Weird. Also bought Ray Bradbury's From the Dust Returned. it looked interesting. Could have spent much much more. Bookstores are like crack houses. Of course, there are a zillion Lord of the Rings related things out now, too. went to see it with 'chelle and gudrun last weekend. very glad i saw it in the theater--definitely something that you want to see on the big screen. it's been 20 years since i've read the books, so i don't know how accurate it was. but it was beautiful to watch.... i do have the books, somewhere in the garage... hopefully not eaten by mice yet. i makes me very sad to think of my books languishing in boxes in the garage, but i just don't have room for them in my room! and i do worry about mice, which, given that we have 4 cats, should NOT be about to eat my books--yet we have found evidence of them in other things! i guess the cats can't be bothered to catch mere mice, mojo especially seems to be much more interested in bunnies....

anyway, back to where i was transitioning from books to movies--while browsing the imdb to refresh my memory of last night's golden globe awards, i noticed that Tuck Everlasting has been made into a movie! set to be released in december. i loved that book--my aunt gave me that book... Natalie Babbit was one of my favorite authors when i was younger, along with Joan Aiken. something about that fact that their books were ostensibly written for children, but they weren't your normal, sanitized, everything is hunky-dory type of kiddie books--there were dark undertones in them. Roald Dahl fits into this category, too. which reminds me--are they ever going to release the movie of The Thief of Always????? my sister & i have been waiting for it for YEARS now--I hope it doesn't end up like Interview With the Vampire--almost 20 years from the time the movie right were sold til it was finally made and released...
