Whatever

So, yesterday I had to get up at 5, so I could head for Omahole around 5:30. Had to pick Nick up and get him back here by 8. He talked to the halfway house guy, and decided it was ok. They had other people interested, so we had to pay July's rent up front. Which meant cashing the income tax check I'd been saving, since I didn't get paid til today. Got him back to Nova, and headed back to Lincoln & work. About 15 miles from Lincoln, I was passing someone, and all of a sudden, the car died. Which really sucked, it was pretty busy and I was going about 80mph... I managed to get over in the thru lane, then over on the shoulder. I coasted down the shoulder as far as I could. Then I called my mechanic to see if they had any clue what was wrong (in case it was something simple, because the fuel cut-out light was on-- but that wasn't the problem...) called Ma, then AAA... while I was waiting for the tow truck, a State Trooper came up from the weigh station (I was about a 1/2 mile from it) to check on me. I told him AAA was coming. So he went back to his cruiser, but he didn't drive off. A couple of minutes later he comes back and wants to see my registration -- because he ran my plates and it came back that my car was silver. So he asks the obvious question, if it had been painted... d'oh! Good thing I wasn't doing anything illegal or wanted for anything...

The tow truck came, driven by "Earl", and I got to ride back to Lincoln listening to country music, in a truck that apparently had NO shocks... oh well, it was better than being stranded by the side of the interstate, with big trucks blowing by 2 feet away, so that car moved... had baby beast towed to Antelope Creek, then Earl dropped me off at the U-Stop at 27th & E, to wait for Ma (she had a luncheon at Lincoln Plating over on West A, so she picked me up on her way back to CBB.) Got to work around 1. Antelope Creek called, said it was the timing belt (it snapped) and it would probably be $350 to fix... there went the rest of the tax refund. It was actually $308, + I had to pay Earl $28 because my AAA only covers 10 miles of towing...

Arkham Asylum Athletic Department another cool shirt... I've seen Miskatonic University gear somewhere, too....

Men's Baseball Brackets - NCAA Sports.com Baylor and Texas have to play each other in the their first game... Baylor already beat Texas 4 times this year... but they didn't win the Big XII, we did, and they didn't sweep Clemson in their Super Regional, either...

Damn. As crappy as my insurance is, I'm glad I have it... I finally got the bill for my visit to the dr. about my ankle from the first part of April -- it's $87 something (+ the $30 copay, so it actually cost around $117), it would've been around $250 w/o insurance. It's ridiculous that health care is so expensive... yet we can spend billions of $'s on a stupid pointless war.... and, for all that, they never did figure out what the problem was. I took painkillers, sleep with my feet up, and it went away more or less on its own...

Bleh. Nick is almost done with phase 1 of his treatment program... for phase 2, they're letting him come back to Lincoln (so he can get a job, and we can look for a place)... Pastor Bud thought he would have a bed for him, but some of the people there are taking longer to leave than he thought they would... so Nick's trying to get into someplace else. The place he might go requires face-to-face interviews, so I have to go up to Omaha tomorrow morning, and bring him here for an appt. at 8 (which means I have to leave around 5:30 -- ugh!)... then I'll have to take him back to Omaha. I'll be so glad when he's here and I don't have to go up there. I've been making 2 to 3 trips a week for the past month, it's getting old. At least gas went down a bit... it's still around $2, depending where you get it, but it was close to $2.50 about a month ago. (I refuse to use ethanol blend, because it's a big old sham that sells well with the farmers -- I made my case about that here).

Herald.com | 06/12/2005 | No love for Nebraska I thought this was going to be a Nebraska-bashing article, but it's not... Whoo hoo! We's going to the College World Series, baby! Boo hoo, no Kevin Costner this year... since Cal State-Fullerton isn't going... karma is a bitch when it bites you back... the way CSF won the first game Friday night was BS. Now, if Oregon State will just knock off USC today... a California-free CWS would be nice. USC comes off as a bunch of arrogant a-holes, just because they've won so many championships. They're like Notre Dame, they think everyone should just fall at their feet and let them win...
