Whatever

Friday, October 17

Whoo hoo! Halloween being on a Friday this year means that I can go out Saturday morning and scoop up the 1/2 price schwag. Usually, I have to work the next day, and the good stuff is gone before I can hit the stores. Normals look forward to the day-after-Xmas sales, I wait for the day-after-Halloween ... I'm vaguely disappointed, though; this year it seems like there just isn't as much cool stuff as in years past....

Just realized that last post was over a year ago. Doesn't feel like it's been a year. Nebraska was doing better this year, until the debacle at Missouri last week. Oh well, I hope the inbred hillbillies enjoyed it, because Oklahoma is going to kick their @sses up and down the field tomorrow.... it sucked even more since KC beat the Broncos the previous Sunday. I had to listen to the Omaha sports station, and they carry the Chiefs color commentary feed. At least here, our ESPN station carries the Bronco side. The rest of the trip was good, though. We went up Sat. night and stayed at Bodie & Nancy's because the Omaha Race for the Cure was Sunday morning. The weather was perfect, and 6,000 people participated in the race & walk. Mom, Jen & I went shopping in the afternoon on Sunday, I wanted to check out Rave because they have cheap trendy clothes, got a chinese-style top (like a Mandarin jacket).
It pains me to admit we also went into Old Navy, and I actually bought some stuff. On clearance, of course... a black knit dress and a green paisley hippy top. The other place I had specifically planned on going to was a bead store where I dropped $50. I had just spent about that much the week before at the Nebraska Bead Society's annual Bead Bazaar... now if I would actually make something with all the stuff I've bought....

We had planned on going home after the bead store, but my sister was cranky and wanted to go the Old Market, which, of course, is in the total opposite direction, being on the eastern edge of Omaha. She pitched a fit til my mom gave in, and off we went. It turned out to be a good thing, though, as Homer's Old Market sells used DVDs, and I found Near Dark and "Kindred: The Embraced" for $10 each. Also picked up some used cds-- skinny puppy's dystemper (remixes by various people), a "gothic, wave & electronic" compliation from Nuclear Blast, and a Moody Blues greatest hits cd. (Now there's an example of my "eclectic" musical taste). We ate at an awesome Persian restaurant called Ahmad's. I had the chicken with walnut & pomegranate sauce. It was heavenly. I can't believe we don't have any Persian restaurants here, with our large Irani refugee population. We have at least 4 Thai restaurants, 4 Indian/Pakistani restaurants, tons of Chinese places. There is a Middle Eastern place called Jerusalem Cuisine, but it's more gyros & hummus-type stuff. I am trying to figure out where to get pomegranate paste here in Lincoln. There has to be somewhere, you can't tell me none of the immigrants eat their native foods.....
