Eech. Allergy time again. I feel like such a total slug, I've been sick in one way or another for over a month now... I started having really bad joint pain, especially in the morning, just getting out of bed was excruciating. I took otc painkillers for a week, thinking I was just getting the flu, because my throat felt icky and my head ached too. Then my ankles started swelling up, it was really gross looking, like old lady ankles. I went to Lincare, they poked at them, gave me some Celebrex, and told me if it didn't get better I'd have to go to a regular doctor. So I took the Celebrex for a couple of days, it was worthless. I switched to Alleve, because my friend (who has arthritis, had to switch from Vioxx when they pulled it (which sucks, because that stuff is the best painkiller, risk of death notwithstanding...), can't take Celebrex (allergic))) recommended it. The swelling wasn't going away, but with Nick getting out, and having to take care of getting him clothes & etc. & getting him to Omaha to NOVA, I had to put off seeing a dr. for another week. Finally saw someone at Antelope Creek on the 4th... they x-rayed my ankle, took a bunch of blood, gave me a scrip for another pain killer (Indocin). It works pretty well. The dr. said try to cut down on sodium (NOT easy if you're a lazy eater who like convenience foods like I do), and sleep with my legs up. Made a follow-up appt for the 18th.
Got a really horrible cold in the meantime, hacking my head off, head full of crap. Since I'd already been to the dr. 2x, I just toughed it out, laying around, taking various cocktails of OTC meds.
The x-rays were normal, all my tests came back normal. So they don't know what caused it... I've been managing it with the Indocin & the other things Dr. Vandenhul told me to do. I'm still stiff in the AM, and after sitting for a long time (which means I have to make myself get up from my desk and walk around every so often). If it comes back, she'll refer me to a rheumatologist...
So, I've got the lingering effects of my mystery illness, combined with the end stages of the cold, and now the pollen counts are hideously high, and will be for the next couple of weeks, so I've got my allergy to contend with, too. Even with meds, I feel half-asleep most of the time. I feel like I could sleep for a week....
