Creepy... KRNU just played some song with a verse about running off to Vegas to get married... (a local band, FortyTwenty's "Milk and Pancakes (The Ballad of Doris) on this, the 10th anniversary of the day that I did just that... a decision that's been pretty universally considered a mistake by my friends and family. Thus I've spent the last 10 years trying to prove them wrong... unfortunately, the jury is still out on that... I knew this wasn't going to be easy, but most of the time it's been ridiculously difficult. I guess things are better lately, except that I'm still living with my mom, I'm still supporting us both (to my detriment, the only money I can spend is on bills and gas for the car, I'm lucky if I can afford shampoo and contact stuff and things like that when I need them. Good thing I'm used to buying my clothes at the thrift...) Some people go on trips or do something romantic for 10th anniversaries... obviously, that's not happening... we won't even go out for dinner, because N has a show tonight. I bet if I don't bring it up, he won't even remember.
I guess I have only myself to blame... I could have found myself someone stable with a well-paying job, had the 2 kiddies and lived happily ever after, just like a good girl is supposed to. Actually, Pretty Woman and the mythology it rests on ---- some day my Prince will come, blah blah -- is just that, a myth. In reality, statistically, women don't marry up, they stay in the class they were born in. I started out poor, til my mom married my stepdad... so at least I had a taste of upper class life... so now, I'm well-educated white trash with expensive tastes I can't gratify. Bitter? Pas moi.
